The famous work of the outstanding Russian historian Sergey Mikhailovich Solovyov (1820–1879) is rightfully considered one of the main achievements of Russian historical science of the 19th century. Solovyov is “the first among equals” among the leading researchers of Russian history, alongside whom stand N. Karamzin, V. Klyuchevsky, N. Kostomarov, A. Presnyakov, T. Granovsky, S. Platonov, and many others.
The twenty-fifth volume of the large-scale 29-volume work is devoted to the period from the reign of Emperor Peter III to the first years of Empress Catherine II’s rule, and covers the events of 1761–1763.
