In the 1980s, a brutal murder of the family of Igor Selivanov, the chief engineer of a defense plant, took place. Igor and his wife were first stunned with a heavy object and then killed with a knife. Their eight-year-old son was hit on the head with a hammer but survived. The investigation is assigned to Valery Denisov, an investigator from the prosecutor’s office. Together with an operational team, he finds out that the perpetrators took nothing valuable from the apartment—except for a hunting rifle. This weapon worries the investigators, as it could be used for new crimes. Soon those fears become reality: the younger brother of Selivanov is killed with that rifle.
