At the beginning of the eighties, a woman came to the Moscow police department from the provinces to visit her sister Margarita. However, Margarita wasn’t at home, and she hadn’t appeared for several days. An operations team broke into the apartment but found nothing suspicious—except for one expensive shoe with no pair, which was strange for a librarian with a modest salary. Investigators questioned neighbors and witnesses, and soon discovered that Margarita, outwardly respectable, had been living such an unusual life that she could have become a victim of a crime.
