Studio “MediaKniga” presents an audiobook by one of the greatest French writers, Émile Zola — “Creation.”
“Reaching his old half-circular door with iron brackets, Claude, blinded by the rain, groped for the bell button by touch—yet flinched upon bumping into a living body pressed against the door. At that moment a lightning flash struck again, and in its light Claude saw a tall, young girl in a black dress, completely drenched and trembling with fear.
The thunderclap that followed the lightning made them both flinch.
‘What a surprise!’ Claude exclaimed. ‘Who are you, and what are you doing here?’
He couldn’t see her face in the ensuing darkness, but he heard restrained sobs.
‘Oh, sir, I beg you,’ she murmured. ‘Have mercy on me… Lord, I’m in Paris for the first time!.. I don’t know where I am now…’
Émile Zola, “Creation.”
The novel is an independent book, the fourteenth of the series, and one of the best in Émile Zola’s great twenty-volume epic “Rougon-Macquart.”
