After a short but deadly global nuclear war in 2012, more than forty years passed. Arzamas-16 was rebuilt from scratch. By 2053 it was already a mid-level town with several enterprises and almost free labor. And if, for a week of easy work, an ordinary rank-and-file laborer—that is, a healthy average person—received twenty coins, a mutant could count on only ten. But even those ten coins had to be earned by toiling in the plaster mine from morning till night, so that after five years he would turn into a decrepit, half-blind wreck. A mutant nicknamed the Collector—just “Col” for enemies—didn’t want to become such a wreck, and it wasn’t part of his plans to bend over in a plaster mine either. Col preferred to make money another way—hunting heads, collecting not only “contracts,” but sometimes even the customers themselves.
