A global war happened. On June 23, 2012, the leadership of the USA decided to launch a “preemptive” missile-bomb strike on the territory of the Russian Federation. The aggressors weren’t afraid of retaliation. They hoped for the missile defense system, but they greatly overestimated it. Hell broke loose from its chains and swallowed the Earth.
Cities lie in ruins, dusted with the ashes of their inhabitants. But humankind as a species did not cease to exist. The surviving people hid in deep burrows, lay low, and waited it out.
Seventy years have passed since Armageddon. Humanity gradually puts itself back on its feet, learning again how to live in a changed world, where any settlement is a fortress under siege by a hostile forest, and totalitarian city-states struggle with each other for influence and resources. Stas, a free shooter whose well-being depends only on himself and a reliable automatic rifle, goes to one of the forts to discuss future work with a potential employer. Helping residents neutralize a stray gang is a normal, almost routine matter—until very soon it turns into a true nightmare, and the chain of events that follows will change not only the mercenary’s life, but perhaps the whole world.
