The air smells of pine needles; around there’s July taiga. I’m a game warden who knows it like the back of his hand, going after a boar. Then—bang— a shot, and darkness. I wake up and I’m seventeen years old. And now they call me Max. And I’m in a weak body of this sick boy whom locals shun. On my hands are red tattoos of a beast-catcher. I need to catch my first pet, survive, and help my family. I have to get used to this crazy world— a world where people hide behind flimsy walls, fighting for survival, while the forests are full of magical creatures.
I’ll learn to be a Beast-catcher and use all my knowledge. With my experience and a “Beast Code,” that won’t be hard. Because the forest is the same everywhere—it just needs to be read. And that’s what I’m best at.
