Everyone should have a refuge—a secret place where you can hide when it becomes completely, utterly unbearable. Where nobody will find you, hit you, or throw stones at you. Where you can be yourself! Or maybe a refuge is simply a place where you’re waiting—for anyone. Somewhere it’s so good to return to, day or night. Where you want to bring your “prey,” whatever it is—from a mammoth to an excellent grade in a school notebook. Where you can come with a puppy, a wounded cat, or a rescued bird—and no one will send you away or tell you, “Take this back to where you found it.”
Mishka thought he had just found and saved a cat… Who would’ve guessed that this would be the first step toward his Refuge. A place everyone needs, a place that will become so important to many wonderful people and their pets. The Refuge attracts “like to like,” and actively protects itself from the wrong sort of people—greedy, cruel, selfish, or just plain evil.
And let the defenders act in very unexpected ways—the main thing is the results, and here they are always excellent!
