Calls were heard from Bernard of Clairvaux and from Pope Eugene. They announced a Crusade against the Slavs, and its main slogan was: “Baptism or death!” Thousands of warriors from all over Europe headed north. And they were led by kings—Conrad of Germany and Louis of France. It seems impossible to stop the Crusade—too many warriors want to destroy the unconquered Wends and seize their wealth.
