As long as you’re useful to power, it will keep you close by every possible means. After returning home, Mikhail Karpov lives fully. He has no shortage of money—and soon there will be even more. He’s about to receive the Lenin Prize sign of laureate. Karpov is on friendly terms and even communicates pleasantly with the top leadership of the USSR. But is it all really that idyllic for a science-fiction writer who ended up in the seventies from 2018?

Unfortunately, no. And Mikhail understands that perfectly. They let him live and support him in all his endeavors. But all of this is only temporary. With each year, the value of Karpov’s knowledge will drop lower and lower. One day a turning point will come, and there simply won’t be a need for a person like Mikhail Karpov.
