Mikhail Karpov, having ended up in the past, didn’t waste time. The 1970s of the twentieth century opened many new possibilities for him. He got himself into plenty of trouble—trouble that eventually brought him to the vastness of New York. He can’t fly home because of a prosecution investigation, and the Soviet state doesn’t seem too interested in the fate of its wayward son who turned up in foreign lands. Yet he’s far from the last person in the Union—an accomplished writer and, possibly, the most popular science-fiction writer across the entire USSR… But who cares?

1971—many call it the year of calm in the Soviet Union. For an ordinary citizen, it really was just that. And only a few knew what was truly happening in the country. While the people rejoiced in some stability or other, a conspiracy was ripening in the Soviet government, led by Semichastny and Shelepin. Their goal is to remove Brezhnev at any cost.

The science-fiction writer Mikhail Karpov is about to become a direct participant in the events. Whether he wants it or not! Once again, Karpov will have to play his special role in the fate of his native country. And the consequences—just like always—may turn out to be the most unpredictable.
