The protective hundred frees most of the lands of Great Novgorod from bands of robbers. The trade routes “from the Varangians to the Greeks” will soon be open. In Andreevskoye, a military school begins operating, where orphan children are taught the art of war and many sciences by the very Sotnik and his veteran warriors. New craft workshops have been built, producing excellent and in-demand goods and the best examples of weapons. Agriculture is being reorganized in a new way: new crops for that time are grown, preparing to fill the granaries of the locals. And from the south-west, the strengthened and united Lithuanians begin to threaten with an invasion. On the Baltic, tensions grow between the mistress of the northern seas—Denmark—and Novgorod’s ally, the Hanse. The forces of a single hundred are clearly not enough to repel all these threats, and a new дружина must be formed—one that will provide border service, reconnaissance, and will also be able to break up and confuse the plans of numerous cruel enemies of Rus’. The Sotnik needs loyal companions and his own well-trained army!
