Someday or other, this had to happen. I returned to my homeland—the capital of the Minsk principality. A few years ago I would have been very happy about this. But who was I then? A poor relative who couldn’t rise above the rank of Warrior and gave up his life as a pledge to the peace treaty between two hostile clans. Only later I learned I was not needed by one side at all, and the other side couldn’t do anything when they sent me to China. But now that I’ve returned, everything has changed. I have something to lose, and for every side of the family I’m a sort of prize. Big money is big filth, and nobody is going to consider my interests. How am I supposed to fend off their grasping hands? I don’t know yet! But one thing I know for sure: if they think victory over me will be easy, they’re very, very mistaken!
