The famous “The Chronicles of Brother Cadfael” brought worldwide fame to the English writer Ellis Peters (Ellis Peters). The novels take place between 1135 and 1145, during the civil war between Queen Matilda and King Stephen of Blois.
Some Cadfael novels describe or refer to historical events that occurred in that period.
“Passage through a Holy House” (a.k.a. “The Sparrow in the House of the Holy”) is the seventh book in the series. Dramatic events unfold in the Aurifaber family. During a wedding, jewels are stolen and the head of the house—the goldsmith—is nearly killed. A wandering actor is blamed for the crime, who had amused the guests.
However, Brother Cadfael finds the true culprit.
