Kraft Lawrence is a twenty-five-year-old wandering merchant dreaming of saving enough money to set up his own shop. For seven years now he’s been traveling through cities, gaining experience in trade. One day he meets a pagan deity, the she-wolf Horo, whose age is measured in centuries. She looks like a young girl with wolf ears and a tail, and introduces herself as a god or patron of harvest. For many years, Horo lived in the village of Pasro, but progress doesn’t stand still, and the locals no longer need her patronage. So the she-wolf decides to return to her native places, and Lawrence “agrees” to escort her north.
