Craft Lawrence is a twenty-five-year-old wandering merchant dreaming of saving enough money to set up his own shop. For seven years now, he has been traveling through cities, gathering experience in trade. One day he meets a pagan deity—a wolfess, Horo—whose age is measured in centuries. She looks like a girl with wolf ears and a tail, and introduces herself as a patron deity of the harvest. Horo spent many years in the village of Pasro, but progress does not stand still, and the locals no longer need her patronage. So the wolfess decides to return to her native places, and Lawrence “agrees” to escort her to the north.
