Young Ricki Allayn arrives in the picturesque fishing village of Deep Cove to write his first book. The lack of entertainment in this quiet place is more than compensated for by the locals, who behave in a decidedly strange way: an artist guards his paint set with excessive zeal, while a plumber, under cover of night fishing, is clearly up to some dark business. When a tragic accident occurs in the village, Ricki begins his own investigation. He can’t believe that an experienced riding instructor who ran a riding school and stables could have died in such an odd manner.
