Harry Hole arrives in Sydney to help investigate a brutal murder of a Norwegian subject. Australian police don’t take him seriously—yet the case is much more complex than it may seem at first glance. Ancient legends of the Aboriginal people come alive: the spirit of death has spread over the land with black wings of bats, and Harry, like the hero who defeated the terrible serpent Bubbur, must take on a cunning enemy in order to defeat evil and avenge the death of his beloved.
This case will become the beginning of Harry’s somewhat eccentric police career, and for its creator, Jo Nesbø, it will be the first step toward dizzying worldwide fame.
