At first glance, the action of this mystical—and in essence, detective—story unfolds in an uncomfortable, crisis-ridden world of a Lost Planet, so unlike Earth and yet surprisingly accurately copying all the charms and flaws of the distant homeland of its ancestors.
Panic reigns in the Capital of the Russian-speaking continent, Lavrazia. A cruel killer, nicknamed by locals the Fiend, has somehow made his way into the Capital from the dense surrounding forests—bypassing all checkpoints and the city wall. The police scramble to find the maniac, but all investigations and raids yield no results.
When the Continental Security Service gets involved, it turns out that the Fiend isn’t just a maniac. This creature is too strong and too clever. CSB agents Tsaplin and Khorosheev pick up the trail of the Fiend, and that trail leads them to the source of a real conspiracy. All the agents need now is to understand who invented the conspiracy and started putting it into action. And they also have to figure out one more thing: is it really worth finding all this out?
