A young Greek sculptor Pandion travels to the island of Crete to get acquainted more closely with the work of Cretan artists, to understand and study on the spot the secrets of their craft. After spending several months in Crete and preparing to return home, the young man is forced to flee from bandits who are planning to capture him. That’s how Pandion ends up on a merchant ship, and then in Egypt—where all his misfortunes continue with renewed force.
