The novel “The Younger Son” covers a forty-year period of Russian history in the second half of the 13th century (1263–1304) and tells of the struggle for power among the sons of Alexander Nevsky—Dmitry and Andrey. It also describes Rus’ relations with the Horde and how Nevsky’s younger son, Daniil, founded the Moscow княжество as the center for the country’s later unification.
