Senior investigator of the Investigative Committee Orest Volin detains Mikhail Kapustin at Moscow’s airport, who is suspected of illegal transfer of diamonds abroad.
Meanwhile, the researcher of intelligence history, General Vorontsov, deciphers another book of the diaries of Zagosky. It tells how, in early 1925, the detective encountered at the station a twelve-year-old runaway Mit’ka Alsufyev, who turned out to be the younger son of his friend, the nobleman Fyodor Alsufyev. Alsufyev and his wife died, their younger son Mit’ka became a runaway, while the older one, Arseniy, as a counterrevolutionary, ended up in the Solovetsky Special Purpose Camp. Zagosky decides to help the sons of his longtime acquaintance.
