Seven-year-old Hedvig thinks she is the only child in the entire world. After all, she and her parents live so far away that there’s hardly anyone to talk to. And every day is just like the last—unbearably boring! But very soon everything will change, because Hedvig is finally going to go to school!
A witty and slightly mischievous series of books by the famous Swedish writer Frida Nilsson about a curious, restless, inventive girl, Hedvig, begins with stories about first-graders and their worries. And the series of books about Hedvig was voiced by the incredible Roza Shmukler from the Petr Fomenko Theater “Masterskaya.” Roza reads so wonderfully that at some point it feels like the restless Hedvig is telling us her own story herself.
"This tale by the Swedish writer Frida Nilsson, translated by Maria Ludkovskaya, reminds one of the famous ‘Waffle Heart’ by Maria Parr—in tone, mood, the wonderful directness of the author’s words, the immediate recognition of characters, feelings, and situations, and the huge talent of the text. At the center is seven-year-old (and later eight-year-old) Hedvig—a girl who lives out in the wilds and goes to first grade. And something keeps happening to her all the time." (Afiche/press release)
