School is over; ahead are the holidays. Linda, her friend, has gone to the sea with her mom. Hedvig is again left completely alone in her little backwater town. The sun is blazing—there’s nobody to play with—and then, on top of that, Grandma gets sick. What a lovely start to summer! Only Hedvig doesn’t know yet that this will be a summer with Steak: funny and sad, strange, a little creepy, and spine-tingling.
This is the third of the books about Hedvig, an energetic, curious, inventive girl who has just started school. Stories about Hedvig are very popular in Sweden, where the heroine is compared to Lotte from Loud Street and the kids from “We All from Büllerbü.”
The first two Hedvig books—“Hedvig finally goes to school” and “Hedvig is absolutely not to blame”—were published in Russian in 2019 and already received excellent reviews from readers and the press. In 2021, both books were translated into audio format. Hedvig’s voice is consistently provided by the wonderful Roza Shmukler, a theater actress from the Master’s Workshop of Peter Fomenko.
