There are people who find problem after problem where it seems almost impossible. They’re the ones who get one chance out of a hundred to get into trouble. Usually such people are called losers. Or, more delicately, the unlucky.
Matvey’s grandmother called her grandson something else—Bedor”.
One day Matvey received a courier order to deliver food and went into a strange apartment, where a dying old woman “rewarded” him with a hisht—an exceptional gift. Now Matvey’s assistant is Gregori the demon, and the hero learns about the existence of a world invisible to many, where all kinds of unclean spirits and otherworldly creatures live. Those who can see this world are called “border-watchers.”
In the fifth book, Matvey’s adventures continue. There’s plenty to do for our wise man: the larva needs to be driven out of a friend’s wife’s body, the artifact must be found, he has to take part in the squabbles between the water king and the forest spirit, discover a hidden cache, and then—later—try to get rid of the overly affectionate lady. In general, there’s no end of things to do.
