The events take place in an alternative Russian Empire, in St. Petersburg, in 1741.
The main hero, a young mage Afanasy Repin, who works in the Secret Chancellery, receives assistance from an unusual div (spirit)—Vladimir, who previously served as a familiar of a noble family. Together they confront secret crimes, magical conspiracies, and intrigues of high society that can change the fate of the empire. Afanasy sees in Vladimir qualities that have escaped other people’s attention: dignity, honesty, intelligence, and loyalty.
Over time, changes occur, and Vladimir meets a new master—Aleksei Menzhov. The question is whether they will be able to overcome distrust and become true partners?
The heroes will have to unravel complicated cases not only in St. Petersburg, but also in distant Portugal.
