Life and Fate

Life and Fate

2 hrs. 3 min.
The novel “Life and Fate” became the most significant book by V. Grossman. It was written in 1960, rejected by the Soviet press, and confiscated by the KGB. Miraculously preserved copies were first published in Switzerland in 1980, and then in Russia in 1988. In this work, the writer rises to the level of high generalizations and examines the Stalingrad drama through universal and all-encompassing categories of human existence. With great artistic power, V. Grossman reveals the historical tragedy of the Russian people: having won over a cruel and powerful enemy, they are torn apart from within by the totalitarian, deceitful, and unjust system.
