Eighteen Plus

There can be different goals. Some come easily even to beginner shooters; others will stand firm even against the most experienced—if luck doesn’t smile on them. For Chiter, everything is excellent: both in aim and in Fortuna’s favor. He has every trait of a winner, and winners never miss. But his main goal is not the kind where everything is decided by a single lucky shot. It’s somewhere far to the west—and that’s bad, because it means he’ll have to cross borders between regions more than once: the most unpleasant locations of the Continent. Even experienced immunes there are nothing more than comic meat, and for a bold rookie, they can’t even be approached.

But that’s alone. With an experienced friend, a lot becomes easier. Of course, only if it’s a real friend—and not an utterly unclear type who can drop you in an instant simply because you didn’t carry out his assignment by the appointed time.
