You’re nobody here, a zero, a blank place—you don’t have anything at all, not even memories; they’ve been taken by the incomprehensible System. To get at least part of them back, you’ll have to work a great deal, and that work won’t be easy. You’ll also have to die many times, because you’re too weak and you don’t have the most important thing—information, without which survival in this extremely unpleasant place is impossible. You can’t get it from faceless numbers—you need people like you, but experienced, who’ve seen a lot. Only they’re not exactly in a hurry to share their knowledge, and for some of them, killing someone just like you is practically a sacred duty. So die again and again, rewinding the life counter. Even the founders don’t know what will happen when it reaches zero—though many are sure this is the last death, there won’t be any more resurrections. You’re not the first on this path and you’re hardly the last.
And one more thing. Many stars must align in the sky for luck to smile at the start—or at least near it.
For some, it smiles at all thirty-two teeth—for those who are lucky enough to find a vulnerability in the System. Such people are called cheaters.
In the book, elements of the universe S-T-I-K-S are used.
