During the year, Henry VI was confined in the Windsor Castle because of his mental condition. In that time, palace factions led by Queen Margaret and the Duke of York fought for power that had been lost due to the monarch’s illness. The Earl of Salisbury and the Earl of Warwick supported York in this struggle.

However, when Henry regained his senses and returned to London to confirm his claims to the throne, the country was literally torn apart by civil war.
