The colonies managed to avoid destruction, but contact with the Federation was lost, and rival factions within the ruling elite of the planet’s only megacity pursue only their own interests. The swarm withdrew from the system of Brigan, but Rich is sure it’s only temporary. The enemy won’t leave the planet alone, the one where it suffered a humiliating defeat. The problem is that Rich still doesn’t have enough political weight—while those who do are fully focused on the struggle for power over the destroyed city, believing that since the Roy enclave on the planet is almost wiped out, the worst is already over and it’s time to boldly divide the fruits of someone else’s victory.
