After a racing catastrophe, Kreyben, the son of one of the bosses of the full-immersion online game company, is on the brink of death. To ease his son’s suffering, the father—using his position—puts him in a virtual reality capsule. The capsule is an experimental prototype, so the risk is very high. Once inside the game, Kreyben realizes that, unlike other players, he can’t exit it. And the sensitivity is so high that all sensations—including pain—are close to real. Now the game is his new “life,” and it begins not very successfully. The hero is immediately thrust into slavery. But no harm without good: he can choose a class unavailable to ordinary players and learn deadly combat arts from the Shadow School.
The hero’s path is winding. He gains freedom but loses his memory. When he gets it back and survives, he meets death. But death is not the end either. Now, Kreyben, perhaps, could answer questions about the afterlife and the existence of a soul. Even dying, he is returned to this cruel world—now engulfed by a fire of war between “monsters” and players. And something suggests that in this confrontation the hero will have a special role.
