The Secret Doctrine is Elena Petrovna Blavatsky’s main work in three volumes, published in English. Originally, the book was issued in two volumes in 1888; the third volume was published after the author’s death in 1897. The foundation of The Secret Doctrine consists of stanzas translated from the treasured “Book of Dzyan,” with the author’s commentaries and explanations. The book also examines in detail the fundamental symbolism used by the great religions and mythologies of the world. In the first volume, it discusses the formation of the Universe (Cosmogensis). The second volume considers the origin and evolution of humankind (Anthropogenesis). The third contains stories of some well-known occultists. The book is available to us in Russian thanks to E.I. Roerich’s translation—someone who, as with Blavatsky while writing the book, was guided by the Great Teachers.
