The year 1707. The Don Host. By order of Tsar Peter Alexeyevich Romanov, a punitive expedition is sent to the Don, but it is destroyed by the Cossacks of ataman Kondratiy Bulavin. The uprising begins—thousands of people die, Cossack towns burn, and the rebel ataman is killed by traitors, while the tsar’s troops restore order on the Don lands with fire and sword.
