The onslaught of the Order of the Sword-Bearers on Yuriev was successfully stopped. Prince Yaroslav, entrusting his son Alexander with the “Western Shield” of Rus', leads the retinue to Kyiv—since entering the struggle for the grand princely throne is still ahead. All that remains at the prince’s disposal is a handful of loyal men and the Andreev Brigade—warriors for whom an oath is worth more than their own lives.
On the borders of the Yuriev principality, it’s not just knights who are prowling: here, the interests of crowns are intertwined. The audacious Swedes have already started outfitting ships for an attack on Ladoga, while the pragmatic Danes strengthen fortresses, entrenching themselves in Estland lands. While in Kyiv feasts are loud and steel rings in clashes for power, in the north-west the need is growing to meet a European onslaught.
Alexander must prove that even with “a small force” one can hold Yuriev and the western frontiers. While the grand prince is occupied with big politics, the Andreev Brigade remains the only barrier capable of stopping the advance of Western neighbors deeper into Russian lands.
