The Dark essence of the Lord was sealed in the very silver wedge hammered into the trunk of one of the God-tree’s “offspring,” the ruler of the Valley of Fear. It was believed that over time, the wedge would disappear completely into the tree’s heartwood and become unreachable for anyone who might want to seize it.

But those plans were not meant to come true. A group of adventurers from the city of Veslo managed to get the wedge, hoping to sell it profitably to some sorcerer—and that set off very serious consequences for the city and its inhabitants. Veslo became, in effect, a battlefield of many forces that wanted to obtain the powerful artifact—or at least prevent competitors from capturing it.

But that wasn’t all—once again, the last of the legendary Ten First Taken returned from the dead: Cromoye, driven by a thirst for revenge, both against his former enemies and against his former masters. Of course, he too wants the Wedge. The remaining members of the Black Squad in the north, led by Dushchyoshka and Molchun, are in for dangerous trials.
