In the late 1980s in the USSR, during Gorbachev’s conversion, a secret project codenamed “Chimera” moves forward with sputtering momentum. A new-generation drug is being tested for the army—one that increases a soldier’s endurance, bordering on immortality. A tragic accident during the next test, not without the help of Western “partners,” puts an end to the development.
Trying to salvage what has already been started, an unprecedented decision is made to secretly carry out the final experiments. The adventure draws in interested high-ranking officials and officers from the highest command staff. At a halted, closed agro-training ground, the experiments are carried out on prisoners sentenced to be shot.
But the experiment fails; the site is automatically sealed and “conserved.” In our days, a leak occurs from an abandoned facility, and this becomes the cause of a small town being infected with a terrifying disease that turns people into deranged cannibals.
