Kay Spaltera killed her husband, a wealthy real estate broker, shortly after he announced he was running for governor as an independent candidate. She cold-bloodedly shot him on a cemetery—right above her mother’s grave. There was no doubt in anyone’s mind. Not the judge, not the prosecutor, and apparently even not her lawyers. Evidence, witness statements—everything was against her. But then Hardwick, recently fired from the police, comes across evidence that the officer who handled the case is crooked and, apparently, framed poor Kay. With this information, he goes to Dave Gurney, a former talented detective and specialist in the most tangled cases. Gurney agrees to help—without even imagining what dangerous case he’s getting pulled into.
