Vladimir and Vera Nabokov were together for more than fifty years—rare in the literary world. In the archives there are more than three hundred letters and notes by Nabokov, filled with irony, love, puzzles, and drawings. Vera was his first reader, typist, and secretary; after his death, she translated his works and preserved his legacy. The letters paint a detailed portrait of the young Nabokov, his circle, acquaintances, literary plans, everyday habits, memories of Russia and Cambridge, and plans for the future. In the last years, his love and admiration for his wife remained unchanged.
