The Immortal Squad

In ancient times, during harsh Medieval days, the state needed warriors of a special kind—not just ordinary soldiers from the ranks, but masterfully trained and hardened fighters. The ruler understood: one regular army isn’t enough. Needed were selected heroes whom one could entrust with the hardest, most dangerous, and decisive missions—missions that determined the future of the country. Let there be few of them, but such that they could withstand any tests, defeat a dozen enemies alone, reach places others couldn’t penetrate, and come out victorious.

Thus, in 1549, a royal special squad was formed—only twelve men. A dozen legendary warriors gathered and selected throughout all Rus’. They were ordered to march to the borders of the Kazan Khanate: to smash the numerous detachments of the murza Zahir Salman, and, beyond that, to capture the murza himself alive, without harming him.

A task worthy of an entire army—and yet it’s not certain the army itself could have done it. But the twelve were not used to arguing with orders. At dawn, they set out on the road…
