Object of Control

The galaxy is divided in two by an invisible spherical barrier: on one side, the physical laws we know apply, and on the other, people can directly control dark energy. The boundary runs along the Orion arm, and Earth is unlucky to find itself on the very edge where two civilizations—driven by aggressive space expansion—collided… The power of one of them is based on technologies far ahead of Earth, and the core of the other is what Earth would call “magic.” One and a half centuries ago, both civilizations converged in a battle for the Solar System, and at that moment the fate of primitive aborigines living on the third planet absolutely did not matter to them. After one hundred and fifty years, among the descendants of the few surviving Earthlings, this clash is known as the Other War—“the Alien War.”
