Dem Mikhailov is a science-fiction writer working in various genres. He is the author of several novel cycles and one of the founders of the LitRPG genre, based on the subculture of popular role-playing computer games. The “Lowest” series is among the author’s best-known cycles. The novel is written in the RealRPG setting (a literary device where the story is governed by the laws of game mechanics, but the characters’ life is real).

We are facing a bleak and cruel world where the ever-present System runs everything. People inhabit dark corridors with no end in sight. They appear here not only without memories, but also completely deprived of limbs. They are all “voluntarily low”—that is, supposedly they themselves agreed to this fate. Nobody remembers when or why it happened, but each tries to survive at any cost.

The main hero is the player with the number eleven, known to everyone as Ody. He doesn’t intend to drag along his miserable existence any longer and wants to figure out what’s going on.

Starting by restoring order on his outskirts, he and his team move further, crushing enemies and racking up points with the System.

The tenth book concludes the cycle. Many mysteries of the world Ody found himself in—and the secret of his own fate—will become clear. To do this, the hero must reach the Tower and meet the First Higher.
