The Moomins

10 hrs. 37 min.
The book you’re about to listen to is a real event. For the first time in many years, the entire Moomin cycle has been translated anew into Russian! Those who already know the inhabitants of Moominvalley will be curious to see their adventures in a new light. And those who are meeting Tove Jansson’s fairy-tale world for the first time can only be pleasantly envious!

Little trolls or a big flood: Autumn is coming, which means that Moomintroll and his mother need to find a cozy place as soon as possible and build a house there. Previously, Moomin-trolls didn’t have to wander through forests and swamps in search of shelter— they lived behind people’s stoves. But now there are hardly any stoves left, and steam heating is not to the Moomins’ liking. That’s why Moomintroll and his mother risk taking the road, dreaming not only of a new home, but also of Moomintroll’s father, who disappeared long ago. Meanwhile, a big flood is on the way...

When the comet comes: The end of the world is looming over Moominvalley! Somewhere far away in the impenetrably black universe, a star with a burning tail—a comet—moves, and it is about to fall to Earth. And then no one knows what awaits all earthly inhabitants. Moomintroll and Sniff were told about this by their new friend Snufkin (who they met on the way to the observatory— they went there to find out whether the Universe is really that black. And it was a very dangerous journey!). At the observatory, scientists even named the day and hour when the comet would arrive. There’s no time to waste— they must get home as quickly as possible. After all, Mum and Dad will certainly come up with a way to save the world!

The Wizard’s Hat: All winter, Moomintroll, as is known, spends in hibernation—and that makes him no different from any other Moomintroll. But in spring, once he wakes up, he very much fancies doing something unusual. For example, climbing a mountain together with his friends Snufkin and Sniff and discovering a black cylinder forgotten by someone at the top. And it turns out not to be just a pretty hat, but a hat that can work miracles! With it you can defeat the Ant Lion and go for rides on nice little clouds— but there’s one trouble: you never know what the hat will throw out next time. Maybe it’s worth getting rid of it? But as it turns out, that’s not so easy. And the biggest magic will begin when the real owner of the hat arrives in Moominvalley...

The Memoirs of Moominpa: One day, in the middle of the height of summer, Moominpa managed to catch a cold. You never know how a cold might end—especially if you’ve caught one for the first time. So it’s better to take care in advance that you will be remembered by coming generations. Because when it comes to Moominpa, his biography is full of unbelievable incidents, dreadful dangers, tragic twists, and heroic deeds. And what did you think? Before becoming the respectable father of the Moomins, Moominpa was an adventurer and plowed the river and sea waves on a ship with the poetic name “Morse Orchestra.” All of this—descendants (and you)— will read about one day in the memoirs Moominpa began writing as soon as he’d recovered from his cold...

Dangerous summer: The summer turned out to be anxious: a flood came into the valley and flooded the Moomintrolls’ house. The family set out to look for new lodging. Fortunately, the waves brought a house to the shore that seemed perfectly suitable—though it behaved a bit strangely. It had a roof like a shell flap and a rotating floor; and if you tugged the string, a picture would fall from the ceiling—or rain would pour—or hundreds of colorful lights would ignite. No sooner had the family tidied up a little and sat down to drink tea, than one of the former residents appeared from a dark corner and announced that the whole house was a theater. So why not make Moomintrolls actors? And Moominpa sets about staging a play of his own composition!

The Winter of Moomin-troll: In winter, the world becomes different—white, motionless, and cold. Snowdrifts and ice everywhere, and where apples used to grow, snow now grows. But Moomintroll doesn’t need to know all of that. From November to April, all decent Moomintrolls sleep and dream. But it happened that this winter Moomintroll woke up and couldn’t fall asleep again. At first, the winter world seemed strange to him and even somehow wrong. But Moomintroll saw snow, met Tuu-tikki, who had settled in Dad’s bathing tub, encountered the Ice Lady, rode down a slide, and even visited the very heart of a snowstorm. And amazingly, the winter world turned out no worse than the summer one. Moomintroll became the first Moomintroll to live through a whole year in the truest sense. If only for that, it was worth waking up in the middle of winter!

Dad and the Sea: The Moomins have already had to move before, and Moominpa is a great traveler. So at the end of summer, Moominpa decided that a calm life in the Valley isn’t for his restless soul. His calling is to live on an island with a lighthouse, amid the raging sea, and guide ships on their way. The family sets out. The lighthouse at first looks like a rather boring and uncomfortable place. However, that’s only at first glance. Because Moominmamma will be able to make even a bare cliff cozy, and the family will have plenty of secrets, dangers, and raging sea to last them a long time!

Deep in November: Summer is over, and winter is just around the corner. As usual, Snufkin goes on a journey. But for some reason this time he can’t carefree leave Moominvalley—his legs seem to bring him back on their own. And by early winter, many of Moomintroll’s friends and acquaintances suddenly decide that now is the perfect time to pay a visit to Moominhouse. And so the warm golden light of the kerosene lamp flares again on the veranda, making the autumn evenings warmer, and everyone is so happy to see each other.

The Invisible Girl and Other Stories: The world of Moomintrolls is “a world that, deep down, each of us longs for.” Tove Jansson’s famous Swedish-Finnish books prove the truth of this statement: they’ve become an essential part of children’s childhood across several generations. Naive and wise, warm and kind, despite all the storms that sometimes shake it—this world is always open to both children and adults.
