The “Monk” novel cycle, just like the one familiar to our listeners, “Vice-Principal,” is part of the “Battle for the Threshold” book series. Here we present the audio version of the second book in the cycle.
From childhood, the main character, Nik, has often found himself on the brink of death—but each time a mysterious kitten saved him. The kitten died, but after a while it appeared in the home again. In addition, strange dreams came to the boy, in which he saw whirlpools into other worlds. Growing up, the hero goes to Mount Elbrus with his new house pet—a kitten. Again, the creature saves its owner at the cost of its own life, but this time the hero ends up in a completely real whirlpool and finds himself in another world, which will become his new home.
Nik ends up in a monastery, where one of the teachers recognizes him as the Chosen One, and because of that Nik is taken in as a servant. But the hero needs to restore his mind, cauterized by the relocation. He is also in danger from a hunter who is tracking the portal-fantasy traveler.
