Anton Zagnibeda is a law institute student and a trainee police officer. He investigates the disappearance of a cat and a dog. He goes to the house of a professor who has been fired from the university and is registered with a psychiatric clinic, and together with him is transported to another world.
The professor is killed by savages, and Anton unexpectedly becomes the owner of a neglected feudal estate and a squire. Showing the natural quick-wittedness and boldness of a Cossack, Anton restores the domain’s economy and begins secretly minting silver and copper coins according to the imperial standard. But unexpectedly he learns that he wasn’t brought here by accident—unknown forces summoned him to stop the expansion of the parasitic race of the Mongrids.
He comes into possession of powerful artifacts that the Mongrids’ servants from the cult of Dawn are hunting. The forces are unequal, and Anton takes a vampire woman into his team—a disgraced queen-mother, Izarael. The cult of Dawn tempts the duke of Ovrum Marenhaysky to their side, and his troops begin attacking the lords who hold to the cult of Dusk. In the battle at the castle, Anton’s liege forces—the baron Gazan—are defeated by the knights of Dawn. But at the last moment, Anton comes to the baron’s aid with his wife.
Anton’s confrontation with the cult of Dawn flares up with renewed strength. And as for Izarael—there begins a hunt. Whether the man from Earth will manage to survive this unequal clash will only time tell.
