Commissar Cain never let the most important matter of his entire life be left to chance—taking care of his own hide! So this time, after arriving with his regiment on a planet attacked by orcs, he didn’t feel much desire to meet those green-skinned creatures on the battlefield. The commissar finds himself another, more calm and safer—at least, as he thinks—occupation. With a small reconnaissance detachment, he descends into the mining mines to rule out the possibility of an orc invasion through underground passages and, at the same time, check where a couple of miners might have disappeared to. Could he have known that orcs are merely forgotten daisies in a meadow compared to what the icy caves keep?
