During a chase for “Stingers,” Kondratiy Lvovich Zaryubin, a hereditary Cossack and not yet fully a captain of GRU special forces unit 334, along with his men falls into a trap. After an explosion in a bunker packed with explosives, his spirit is transferred to the past. Waking up, he finds that he now lives in someone else’s body. Here he is called Yevpatiy Kolovrat: a bojar and commander who serves the Ryazan prince Yuri. It is the year 1235 A.D. There are still a couple of years until the invasion of Batu, during which Rus’ will tremble and Ryazan will be burned first. While a fragile peace holds for now, princes indulge in internecine conflicts. No one has heard about the Tatars since the battle of Kalka. And only one person knows that time must not be wasted—and what needs to be done to change fate.
