LE JOURNAL DU DIMANCHE

After an exhausting case, Commissioner of Police, head of the criminal investigation brigade of Paris’s 13th district, Adamsberg, takes a vacation on the small Icelandic island of Grimsay. Idyllic quiet is broken by a terse letter: “A woman was hit by a car. Her husband and lover. Everything is not that simple.”

The vacation has to be interrupted urgently. The moment the plane’s landing gear touches the runway at Charles de Gaulle, the commissioner’s troubles—and it seemed his migraine would leave him forever—return. Without him, it’s unlikely anyone could unravel this tangled case. While returning to work, Adamsberg couldn’t imagine that the death of a woman under a car’s wheels would lead him to a mysterious chain of deaths in the south of France.

The killer there will be known: a hermit spider. The strange thing is that its bite wasn’t considered fatal. And why did it decide to strike right now? The truth is, the police see nothing unusual in these cases, so Adamsberg begins an unauthorized investigation.
