In the days of the youth of Hiccup the Bloodthirsty III, dragons roamed the world. They were different. Some—large and grim—soared in the skies like huge, fearsome birds, and nested on the tops of cliffs. Others—small and quick—swarmed in friendly packs and hunted rats and mice. Enormous Sea Dragons were twenty times bigger than the Great Blue Whale and killed just for fun. You’ll have to trust the author, because dragons quickly disappear and, soon enough, may even end up in the Red Book.
To ensure that these amazing creatures weren’t forgotten, Hiccup the Bloodthirsty III wrote this truthful tale of his childhood. He was not the kind of boy who could train a dragon with a simple flick of his finger. And for Heroic Deeds, he wasn’t born for it either. For that, he had to work. This is a story about how hard it is to become a hero.
