Alistair MacLean was a famous British writer who wrote 28 gripping novels and adventure stories, and also worked as a screenwriter. His books were sold in over 150 million copies, and 18 films were made based on his works. MacLean also earned a Doctorate in Literature from the University of Glasgow in 1983. During his service in the navy from 1941 to 1946, MacLean took part in military operations and polar convoys, which inspired him to write many of his best books. One of his most well-known works became the novel "The Guns of Navarone," which turned into a bestseller, and its film adaptation led to the writing of a sequel titled "The Sea Shall Not Have Them" (or "The Guns of Navarone" sequel).
